Can you help one of our customers?
We recently
sold a 1911 postcard of Bayonne, France, to a customer who is researching the life of Harry Owen Roe, a Welsh rugby player
who moved from Penarth to Bayonne around that time. The card is written but not signed; it was sent to an address in
Penarth.
As luck would have it, our customer also had a copy of a letter that Harry wrote to his sister some years later; he compared
the two items and bingo - the handwriting matched! So here in our store was an actual postcard that Harry sent
home! How lucky was that - what a find!
Our customer is preparing to write a script for a feature film about Harry and would welcome any information
on him that isn't freely available on the internet .... does anyone have any knowledge of Harry or his family at that
time? Any newspaper cuttings? Photos? Letters? First hand accounts? Maybe someone out there has done some research on
Harry and can help?
If you can help - please EMAIL us in the first instance and we will pass on your message to our
customer.
You can see the actual postcard of Bayonne that Harry sent home - we feature both sides of it for you
to see. Let's hope someone reading this can fill in some gaps and help our customer with his research. Thanks
for reading!
